“ 　パソコンの起動が遅かったり、データがなくなることを気にしなければならないのは、パソコンにたくさんのソフトやデータを入れているからだ。「ただの箱」にしてしまえば、起動は早くなる。データも自分のパソコンの中ではなくて、ネットの向こう側、グーグルなどのＩＴ企業が持っているコンピューターに保存してもらう。必要があるたびにそれを引き出して使うのであれば、データの保存もネットの向こう側の仕事になる。自分でデータを持っていないのは不安だと思う人もいるだろうが、お金は家に持っているよりも銀行に預けたほうが安心だと思っている。それと同じで、専門家に任せたほうが安全という考え方もある。
　いまさかんに言われている「クラウド・コンピューティング」はまさにこうした考えで、ネットのこちら側の端末は「ただの箱」でいい、というものだ。
